Designing a website
for an online bookstore

Brief

Designing a system for an online bookstore

Disclaimer: this study is only for academic purposes.

Project Overview

In the following project, my aim is to design a user friendly bookstore app or a website for all kinds of book readers and book buyers. I have tried to analyse the existing apps and websites to come up with a better version.

For a better understanding of the user, I had to do extensive research about different kinds of users and their reading habits. The research included conducting surveys, interviews, internet research, empathy maps etc...The secondary research helped me build a strong base for my entire process.

Initially, I started by researching the demographics of readers in India. Then I explored the rise of Ebooks followed by Audiobooks, as they are continuously growing in popularity. I also wanted to know the need for audiobooks and Ebooks compared to physical books.

Secondary Research

Competitor analysis

After secondary research, I started looking at my competitors. The direct competitors I choose were Amazon, Books wagon. The indirect competitors were Goodreads, Apple books, Wattpad.

I studied the user journey, features and the ease of flow of different apps which helped me understand what options can be inculcated in my own app.

Based on the primary research and the secondary research, I have arrived at creating the personas. Each persona represents different groups of people, all the decisions made further were made depending on the personas
